Avoid things like &#8216;Hello&#8217; or leaving the subject line blank.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Before you\u2019ve even started to write your email, it\u2019s important to know how to use titles when addressing someone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For men, using \u2018Mr\u2019 along with either their surname or first name is appropriate&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Married women should be addressed with \u2018Mrs\u2019&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u2018Ms\u2019 is used for women regardless of whether they are married or not.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>University professors may be addressed as &#8216;Prof.\u2019, and doctors are &#8216;Dr\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Now, let\u2019s look at how to start your email!<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">If you know the name of the person you are emailing and have a <strong><em>formal<\/em><\/strong><strong> <\/strong>relationship with them, begin by saying \u2018Dear Ms [Surname],\u2019. If you don\u2019t know the person\u2019s name, use \u2018Dear Sir\/Madam\u2019, or \u2018To whom it may concern\u2019.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Tip<\/strong>: Remember to always include a comma after \u2018Dear [Name]\u2019!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">If you have a more <strong><em>casual<\/em><\/strong> or <strong><em>informal<\/em><\/strong> relationship with the person you\u2019re emailing, something like \u2018Hi [First Name]\u2019 or \u2018Hello [First Name]\u2019 is perfectly acceptable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Introduce yourself, and explain why you are writing<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Explain who you are, including any important information that is related to your enquiry.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Tell your reader why you are writing. Make sure to include any details that will help them with your question, if you have one. Let\u2019s take a look at an example at what we\u2019ve got so far:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u2018Dear Ms. Smith, My name is Jane and I am a 26-year-old from Colombia. I am writing to ask for more information about the English courses you have available at EC Oxford.
