Let’s find out what verbs, adjectives and nouns are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Understanding verbs, adjectives, and nouns is a great first step in improving your English. These three types of words are used all the time in everyday conversations, writing, and reading. Knowing how they work will help you build better sentences and express yourself more clearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this lesson, we’ll look at simple definitions and examples to help you recognise each one. Then, you’ll get a chance to test your understanding with a little quiz at the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is a noun?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Noun: a word that refers to a person, place, thing, event, substance or quality e.g.’nurse’, ‘cat’, ‘party’, ‘oil’ and ‘poverty’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My sister is a pilot<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weather <\/strong>is lovely today<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where is my pen<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is a verb?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Verb: a word or phrase that describes an action, condition or experience e.g. ‘run’, ‘look’ and ‘feel’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She plays<\/strong> golf on the weekend<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open <\/em><\/strong>the window, it’s hot in here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They swam<\/strong> in the river this morning.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is an adjective?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Adjective: a word that describes a noun e.g. ‘big’, ‘boring’, ‘pink’, ‘quick’ and ‘obvious’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s an interesting <\/strong>movie<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He’s wearing a blue<\/strong> hat<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The music is too loud<\/strong>!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
